The Kigali Cultural Highlights Tour of Kigali and surrounding towns gives you an insiders view at the history of Rwanda as well as what makes Kigali the humming city it is today.  Kigali is a modern city with bustling markets, a growing culinary scene, and a culture rich in traditions.

First on the itinerary is the Nyamirambo Womens Center, which is a Rwandan NGO founded by 18 Rwandan women in 2007.  Their mission is to provide education and vocational training to women who do not have financial means so that they can gain better opportunities for employment.  The Center trains and employs women from the community to create a large variety of clothing and accessories, and home decor products.  You will tour their facility and the colorful neighborhood of Nyamirambo like a local.  You also have the opportunity to participate in a basket weaving workshop or a traditional cooking class.

In the afternoon you will visit the Kigali Genocide Memorial or Nyamata and Ntarama Churches and Genocide Memorials.  The Kigali Genocide Memorial is a place of remembrance and learning at this final resting place for 250,000 victims of the genocide.  The Kigali Genocide Memorial aims to educate people about peace and how to prevent future atrocities.  While visiting, you can explore the education center, gardens, and Genocide Archive of Rwanda. Nyamata and Ntarama are neighboring towns just outside Kigali where you can see the impact of genocide at a local level.  Both churches are sites of national significance turned into memorials for the thousands who lost their lives in the massacres.  This tour, led by genocide survivors, includes the churches and grounds where tombs, human remains, clothing, and artifacts can be seen.  These churches are memorials on a very personal level and done with great sensitivity.
