Travel with an Impact
Traveling with Destination Rwanda means traveling for good. We empower the communities we operate in and invest 10% of our profits in healthcare and educational programs. It’s important to us that we have a positive impact in local communities, and that the causes important to these communities are supported.
His Hands on Africa, Handspun Hope, IGLTA Foundation, and FADA are a few of the organizations we support. We’re happy to share up to date details with you about the needs and volunteer opportunities these organizations have, and how you can become involved.
Increasing the number of Rwandan Dentists
Dental health has not achieved the same amount of investment and prioritization in Rwanda as other critical medical needs. His Hands On Africa is working to achieve its long-term goal of increasing the number of Rwandan dentists by establishing a state-of-the-art dental center, the HOPE Dental Center. It will serve not only as the training ground where young Rwandan dentists receive advanced education, spiritual discipleship and hands-on training from U.S. specialists, but also as the home base for our network of Compassion Community Dental Clinics, which will be staffed by newly-minted dentists. These clinics will provide much needed dental care throughout the country.
Creating Community and Livelihood in Musanze
Handspun Hope reaches out to the most vulnerable people in Rwanda and creates environments where they are empowered to live out their full potential at work, home and in their spiritual lives. Handspun Hope founded a center in Musanze that is a safe space for women who have been impacted by the genocide. These women have access to training, counseling, and jobs that empower them in their community. Best of all is the sustainability of this initiative as it’s staffed and supported by locals.
Emerging Destinations and Communities
As part of Destination Rwanda’s efforts to make travel inclusive for all, we are a partner donor for the IGLTA Foundation’s “Emerging Destinations and Communities Program”. This initiative aims to foster a more inclusive and welcoming environment for LGBTQ+ travelers in emerging destinations like Rwanda by providing education, resources, and support to local businesses.
Inclusive Development
FADA offers programs, legal assistance, advocacy, community building, SRHR, and Mental Health support that empower female and sexual minority communities. Although Rwanda is more progressive than many African countries, the LGBTQ+ community is not well understood and social stigma still exists. FADA helps raise general awareness through outreach and education, as well as provides essential resources to the LGBTQ+ community.
“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.”
